Jason, Thanks for understanding. Well put too, by the way. Just "voluntarily stop teaching." It was a hard thing to do though as I miss that. We had some good folks in my last fellowship and it was great to talk to them about a teaching afterwards. New LC and that went out the window. This guy even read the waymag to us once! And he's corps. Sure glad he's a super-duper trained expert on God's Word. He can read! ;-) Not sure which is worse. The guy being so thick that he thinks that is teaching or knowing it's not and being unsatisfied. Either one isn't very appealing. Ah... the "nazi" label. At times, I think the literal according to usage is "someone who has a different view than me and is unwilling to see it my way." :-) My take on our situations is that I am thankful you were/are able to do that. (Can't remember if you're still in but didn't think so) And I do love the quote on your posts! May I borrow it sometime?

Oh, that would be fun! Since it's Texas, should they be big weenies? Oh, I'm sorry, they'll be inside. ;-)

Is TWI a religious group or a Multi level marketing scheme?
JustThinking replied to pjroberge's topic in About The Way
Goey, I wouldn't be surprised if that were the case. Your second point is true too. It's tough to save $80K or more for a house when you take time off for classes, quit when you can't take time off, etc. Not too many window washers around with that much free cash. The said thing is that there was NO teaching on exactly how their method was supposed to work. (Might be a reason for that) On the question for the thread, I think OM is correct that most were/are in it for religious reasons. Or at least the same reasons other people join a church, synagogue, etc. God is in there somewhere but so are the social aspects. -
Jason, As you said "As most things with TWI..." ... it wasn't very consistent. My experience is fairly recent (18 months) and we were expected to teach using almost all of the same verses. If it was "teaching from the Sunday Teaching Service" you were expected to cover roughly the same material. (Pretty boring if you just had a phone hook up or already heard it.) Some deleted or added verses were ok for variety but not too much. Again, stick to what's taught and don't do an entirely different subject. WayMag, same thing. No deviation. I once way off script and was summoned for a "discussion" about how to properly organize a teaching. Two local corps essentially told me to stick with what was on the page and that's it. Come to think of it, that was also the last time I was allowed to teach from the WayMag. Hmmm... could be coincidence?

Lindy, Can I wear one of those big signs when we do outreach? LOL! JT

Is TWI a religious group or a Multi level marketing scheme?
JustThinking replied to pjroberge's topic in About The Way
Goey, I don't believe they have ever said they don't want you to own a home. They do, however, have directions against having a mortgate. Typical TWI, there weren't any teachings on how to buy one for cash except believe God and save money. Oh yeah, and live on a need basis. JT -
Hundreds? They used to max out at 3000 at the Dallas hotel. Must be a lot smaller these days.

Amen Goey. If they wanted to be honest, they could show this information to potential new people when they do the class explanations. (If they still do them, that is) "This is our approach. Everything has to start with and line up with our literature." Or they could just put it on their web site. Yeah, I'm holding my breath.

What is so bad about making a decision to do something you don't really feel like doing it? Isn't that all that decision before desire means? I don't feel like getting up for work every day but I still do. Disclaimer: I never heard LCM's teaching so I may be off base here.
-
P-mosh, The other approach I've seen is to put those priorities in a teaching only but ignore them day-to-day. If you keep information in a vacuum, it makes it easier to twist each piece to fit the situation. That way, if there is a problem then they can say "well, we told you..." Now will they ever say, if you're at fellowship too much, you should spend more time with your family? No way!

Wayfer Not, I think he said that Adam's sin was in not confronting her. That means he essentially gave his ok to her actions.

Tom, Those are "old wineskins" in LCM's book. The even more new present truth (As opposed to VPW's present truth) was that the snake was just figurative to represent the Devil's evil nature. His physical form was that of a woman. According to LCM, Eve got turned on by the looks of the "babe" in front of her and they had sex. See what you miss by not staying tight with the household? ;-)

DM, I think "Are you being served?" is perfect! The line is heard by newbies and they assume it is what their MOGs are asking them. Imbus, Chewbacca - LCM. Just needs to glue on a little more hair. He has the acting experience. :-) I submit Paw for the role of Obi Wan. He exposes the dark side.
-
That would be illegal, yes? I'm sure it is copyrighted. Sorry if I'm pointing out the obvious. Hate to see the WayGB use things like this against us or Paw.

Exie, NOOOO more corps numbers. No more 6th corps, 7th, etc. Now it's class of xx. Similar thing with AC nametags. When you took LCMs version, you got a new one with the current year, even if you took back in the day. Wearing the old one was verboten! Just like wearing ANY old nametag was strictly forbidden.
-
Also, is there anything about HOW to do anything? Unless I've missed something, it's all WHAT to do. Didn't they call themselves a "how-to" ministry at one time? "You should plan, you should believe, you should ALWAYS be at class", etc.
-
Is there ANYTHING at all new in that rag? I used to wonder why it didn't bother them to lose so many committed folks. Maybe it's because they recognize that there really is nothing new going on. Just old hacks desperately pumping air into a lifeless corps in the hopes that no one will notice. That article is just terrible AND boring. If one were to ever wax nostalgic for TWI, it would be a great antidote.

If there were a gettogether for EX-TWI member's would you go???
JustThinking replied to danteh1's topic in About The Way
Dumb question. The Weenie Roast is a real event? Who is allowed to come? Is it for ex-TWI folks? I pulled up the thread but it's 25 pages long and spans over a year's time! Thanks to anyone who can save me a whole morning or reading. -
As part of your assignment, you will be receive no financial support at all. However, you will be required to work a full-time job to support the family you will rarely see. Please make sure to get a job that allows you to move frequently and take as much time off as possible with little to no notice. Things to remember: 1. All of your out-of-pocket expenses like wear on your vehicle will NOT be considered ABS. That will be above and beyond as you are corps. 2. Costs for mandatory gifts (to understand this oxymoron, please work it in the Word), cards, etc. are also love offerings and NOT ABS. 3. When possible (which is always) encourage your small and shrinking number of people to contribute towards these expenses. It is NOT ABS for them either. Make sure to teach on this every time you can. Keep a record in case we have another fight with the IRS. Can't let the ministry be blamed, after all. 4. If the only other twig in your limb is 4 hours away, please drive. This will allow you to SIT for everybody on your lift list and more efficiently use the ABS. 5. Your wife will do all of your responsibilities too while you are driving across North America. 6. Please note that driving for hours at a time does not eliminate any other requirements such as teaching twice per week, meetings with your HFCs, etc. 7. Vacation should be planned for another year to maximize your time moving the Word. We love you and have only thought of what is best for your family in making these guidelines. If there are any questions, please sit through the WAP class again.

How Do You Handle People Who "Witness" To You?
JustThinking replied to Oakspear's topic in About The Way
Why treat them like any other door-to-door salesperson? Be polite and listen if you like. They might be your neighbor, coworker or parent of one of your kid's friends. No point in just being mean. -
This year's assignments: Those with personal servants and no real life responsibilities: The BOT Those with no paid personal servants and varying real life responsibilities: Corps lucky enough to get a TWI check Those with no paid servants and two full-time jobs: All Other Corps Those who are the unpaid servants: Everyone else Think the WayGB is on to me too now? ;-)
