  1. True. At least he was entertaining. The crew he left behind were a real snooze. Maybe we should recommend No-Doze?
  2. I would add: A parka for the ladies when the temp hits 50F Wax smiley lips for when yours start to get sore A tape recorder for submission to the Comedy Channel
  3. Sunesis, New Years wasted too. :-( Rrr... Well, on the other hand, I probably shouldn't view time praying as wasted. When they passed out those prayers lists, I usually just held them in front of me and prayed for whatever I wanted anyway. I thought it was my time with God anyway. JT
  4. Well, I finally broke down the other day and looked at it. Some interesting things from the home page. When you move your mouse over the different links, the pic in the center changes. What you see is: "Contact Us", the photo is the old red barn with a huge moat in front of you. Coincidence or Freudian slip? ;-) "Current News" - shows the front of the auditorium with no one in sight. ??? "Fellowship" - Only one family in sight. That sounds about right. "What is the Way" - A pic of the fountain of living waters. Only people in this pic are dead, yes? Since they believe that everything, everywhere means SOMETHING, should we read something from their choice of photos?
  5. I don't if this counts as revised doctrine so much as standards. For example, as a rule of thumb we were told we should Witness # times per week (Varied from 3 - 10) Spend X hours "working" the Word (This was different for EVERY LC I had) Have number of people (was 7, then 5, then 3...) people in a class There seemed to be a lot of places where the head TWIt wanted to set guidelines that were just made up. No basis in anything other than he had to pull a number out of his a**.
  6. Belle & Mr. H, When I first got in the corps liked to point out that there was no definition of the size of that drink. ;-) Bring a big beer stein! Heck, get one on wheels. Better yet, wear one of those hats that hold two beer cans and have a hose going to your mouth. ;-)
  7. Steve! Hahahahahahaha... The Lone Star state will never be the same!
  8. Radar, "You will come, you will have fun?" ;-) JT
  9. Steve!, When I bailed about two years ago, it was every other year. If my old, feeble mind remembers correctly, they were on even-numbered years. They were doing them in Dallas because of the size of the event. You probably check with the New Knoxville YMCA to see if it's there this year. ;-)
  10. That was us. Although, after Craig got tossed, there seemed to be less of this. It was probably because there were less people!. The numbers got so small that the big holiday get-togethers with Wayfer songs, etc. went by the way side. (No pun intended) Any "Holiday" function was likely to be some half-a**ed witnessing event. Even with the goofy songs, etc, at least the holidays were still fun when I got in during the late 80s. We did gift exchanges, sang, had hot chocolate, etc. The final few parties were dull no one wanted to be there. We had "coffee houses", for example. It was supposed to be just a fun evening for "new people." The LC gets inspired to do yet another 90 minute (really) teaching. I would NEVER invite anyone to these lame parties that I didn't want to hate me on Monday. JT
  11. Belle, OMG, good point. Thankfully, no one thought of it! I wonder who started a lot of these things? I was always a nobody so these things seemed to just come out of nowhere. Maybe HQ had a "Dumb Idea Department?" ;-)
  12. Belle, No, they'll just revise the "Biblical" definition of sex. Not that anyone here would EVER want to tweak TWI but... one could ask about the first usage still being a valid Biblical research principle. They will, of course, say yes. Then ask about the first use of sexual terms in the Bible. If you believe Loyboy's class it was a lesbian affair between Eve and the Devil. So that sets the pattern for the rest? :-) JT
  13. Yet another stupid fad dreamed up by a bunch of control freaks with nothing better to do. This must be what happens when you think helping your family or those in need is beneath you. You buy a planner, brief case and a crappy suit then go about running other people's lives. Other great ideas from the Way Irrational probably have already had their own thread or should.
  14. So they've discovered beastiality is wrong?! Wow, wait until the unbelievers hear this. Here's a tip for both of the Corps weenies allowed to look at the net. Find an article on beastiality and print it. Take it to the next advanced class as proof that the the devvvvil spirit world is copying the research done by the one true household. You'll be a hero. -->
  15. dmiller: TWI will take you. Any group that can produce a song about the blood of the wicked doesn't mind being offensive. :(-->
  16. That TWI couldn't teach "Biblical Accuracy approach to Christian living" doesn't mean it's pointless. It simply means that trying to get it from TWI is pointless.
  17. Satori, I agree. It wouldn't surprise me if that "put everybody else first" wayfer mentality would have us apologize and forgive everyone BUT ourselves. JT
  18. This happened to me but it was the dumb planner that HQ put out and it was in the 90s. That thing was good if you did two things per day. As an executive planner? Uh... I think they did that in Word in about 5 minutes, didn't they? :-) Did they "suggest" I get one? You bet. Did I? LOL! Yeah, right. I told my BC that my secretary kept my calendar for me and he didn't know what to say. I then showed him what she did for me and he said "well, it still wouldn't hurt." -->
  19. After reading some accounts over the past year, my "injuries" don't seem so bad. Here are a couple of things I saw in my Wayer years: 1. People railroaded out the door for not fitting the TWI mold 2. Just about every LC where I was had an affair. 3. Most LCs were booted, left or were just psycho 4. Most BCs booted, left or were just psycho. 5. Told to stop witnessing to an alcoholic because our ministry was not "focused on that issue." There were other places she should go first like rehab. Nice words but it was never suggested we actually find a rehab place. Just ditch the person. 6. The infamous "stop taking your meds" routine that others have seen. The person nearly committed suicide.
  20. Illegal? No. Immoral? Absolutely.
  21. I have a few myself. Multiply that by how many people? It sure adds up fast.
  22. THAT to me is the ultimate Craig Martindale doctrine. JT
  23. Oak, Sorry for the flip answer. One thing that came and went: Only witnessing to the middle class (never really defined what that meant) No explanation of that or any other change was ever given that I saw. They just sort of faded away. When asked they would just sort of mumble something like "well, we're not doing that anymore." Another change was needing 7 new students for a class. It was lowered to 3. No announcement. Just sort of happened. JT
