I don't even want to know the details. I carry enough garbage around in my brain already that I wish I didn't. Once you put that stuff in there, you never get it out again.2 points

It seems to me that saying,"The Way is not to be confused with The Way International" seems pretty smart in terms of being prepared for trouble. Their stance is transparently biblical and saying that they are not the same seems like a really good thing for them to say. But saying,"We want to be more culturally relavent" not only made me laugh out loud, but it is the type of thing that some folks say if and when they are actually spoiling for a fight. Sheeesh, I almost have to like these folks already.2 points

While we were in The Way, one of the concepts that was pitched to us was the supposed importance of tithing and abundant sharing. It started in PFAL with Christians Should Be Prosperous. There was all the talk about how 9/10ths could go farther than 10/10ths and how our giving was like a form of health and life insurance, etc.. If we didn't do it, we were leaving ourselves susceptible to attacks from the adversary . So, anyhow, when you left, did you wonder to yourself how and where you would now tithe so you could stay in God's good graces? Did it ever cross your mind that you might be walking away from God's protection by not tithing? Think about it. It's like a woman walking out on an abusive spouse and worrying if the SOB will have a decent dinner tonight.1 point

This sounded so good... "Why I Quit Church and Started Attending Love Feasts" Then, it sounded so familiar... Nothing new under the sun, I suppose... Apparently, Baptist minister turned Mormon, now doing own thing house church but will speak at your house church if you book him...1 point

15 years TWI= a lot of time and money 20 years Offshoots= a lot more time and a lot more money. The rest of your life without them = PRICELESS Enjoy!1 point

I would have to agree that this particular page has more of the all inclusive flair of the post-modern movement. Then I started looking around and I'm getting more of a zionist kingdom (exclusionist) vibe than a post-modern kingdom vibe. So it's the same ol' our ways are the righteous path stuff.1 point

It seems to be a bit of Mormon flavor added to post-modern thinking. I think you will notice that the emphasis is on community and not doctrine, which sets it apart from the TWI home church concept. Could you imagine having a dialog during the actual "message" part of a twig gathering? I don't think so. What this guy is talking about is pretty much where I've been headed for the past 10 years (without the Mormon thing of being pre-destined royalty), and didn't know why. It seems to be kind of a stream of consciousness that's been awakening in people. This is yet another person who is manifesting it with some interesting twists.1 point

That is an unconstrained problem with no solution. East vs west at 0 degrees latitude (equator) puts them about 12 hours apart (assuming departure from same airport - and without an origin this problem is meaningless - well it is meaningless anyway as described below) although the west bound plane has the ground miles advantage of flying against earth's rotation. However as we move progressively closer to the poles the time shrinks as a function of a linear slice of a sphere. As written there is not enough information to solve it. Who thinks of these kinds of foolish problems without constraining them. Finally - planes fly (generally) great circle arcs not straight east/west.1 point

Then there's the truth in advertising issue. The Way International is not "The" Way, it is merely "A" Way.1 point

I think Jesus should sue The Way for misrepresenting his mission in session one of *PLAF (The Wonder Class)*. *Puke, Loogie And Flatulance*1 point

Aside from the people here and a relatively small handful scattered around, how many people have even heard of TWI? They are not exactly NASA or Microsoft or even J.C. Penney I dont know exactly how this works..I have been in many churches that have the same name as unaffiliated churches hundreds of miles away or sometimes even in the same town! ...Christ Church, Saint(pick any name)Church etc...1 point

Interesting site, Mark. Also interesting to note that in the Preface, he doesn't mention TWI. Only in the Lexicon. Is Paul Y0unan some exWayfer? Note, he makes it freely available.1 point

Anyone else see this movie "Join Us"? I just happened upon it Monday night...it's a documentary about people who left a cult run by Raimund Melz...yet another money-grubbing manipulative controlling preacher child-abusing bastu^d. I looked to see if it's playing again but it only ran that night plus the in wee hours Tuesday morning. I'll try to post a link to it and to the forums concerning it: http://www.joinusthemovie.com/ http://www.factnet.o...ges/3/1647.html What a shame there are so many of these creeps out there taking advantage of people.1 point

Well, I am with George, I see enough garbage and really didn't need that rolling around my head. I am still semi-traumatized by an after-school special I saw as a kid. Truthfully, I am surprised he received two life sentences. . . rapist don't usually serve that kind of time. This crime was particularly heinous and the counts against them were multiple which is why the punishment could actually fit the crime. . . . . . They don't execute people for rape. . . . so other than chemical castration. . . . what punishment would have been an option? Now, if this doesn't illustrate that evil exists. . . I don't know what does. . . . but, it is hardly the worst crime I have ever heard about. . . .1 point

The general population of a prison won't be as kind to them as any judge and jury would be, regardless of the sentence. The fact they committee these horrible crimes against a mother and son will mark them in a prison. My brother-in-law worked at a prison in Iowa. He told me that because inmates are missing their families, especially their wives and kids, that they are less than kind to anyone who had committed a crime against a woman or kid. I'm sure he's right - he's worked there long enough to see it. Let them suffer the same and then let them dangle. They don't deserve mercy and are less than animals themselves.1 point

Maybe is was going on, the only difference now being that you simply hear about it. Weren't things more "hush-hush" in general back then? What if Manson were just one of many, only he was chosen to be prosecuted? vpw never paid for the crimes he is accused of.1 point

This is their defense? "I only raped her once" - Capital B-A-R-F. They'll probably do some defense about how being in a group causes people to do things they normally wouldn't. You know, cause gang raping someone isn't as bad as if you did it independently. <_<1 point

crap That one took the wind out of my sails....Its hard to know whats going through anyones head when something like that happens---Drugs? Crack? Cocaine? a combination of incredibly dysfunctional lives, mob mentality and totally fried brains? I dont know--I just dont know---its way beyond me--and probably the subject of someones masters thesis in criminal thought. Its sick, Im much too stunned to give a cogent answer on the punishment phase. My initial reaction was to skin them alive or toss them over Niagara Falls but that was as I said an initial reaction...I'd have to settle down and think about it for awhile before I could give a serious answer1 point

When I moved into my current house in 1993, my neighbor gave me a little climbing vine called Sweet Autumn Clematis. (It blooms in late August through September hence the "Autumn" part of the name.) I planted it next to a trellis on the west side of my carport/garage. It grows about 3 inches a day, so every summer it fills the trellis and every fall I cut it down to the ground. It has zillions of tiny white blooms and smells fantastic in the evening breeze. When the blooms are spent, they leave behind millions of tiny seeds in a filigree/lace-like mass. Here is a photo of one like it. (This is not at my house.) It's always been one of my favorite plants---------until this summer. This summer, it showed up everywhere in my yard, overran my forsythias and climbed to the top of my neighbor's 25 foot tall tree. It looks like a massive snow cap hanging there. I hate like heck to get rid of it 'cause it is such a cool plant. I guess everything is a trade off when it comes to gardening.1 point

Aaahhh, running through rows of corn. My grandparents were farmers on the east side of NC. I think I have shared some of this before. Don't stop me if I have. It is just too good. They grew acres and acres of corn. Enough corn to feed the pigs and chickens and enough white corn, Silver Queen, to feed us through the winter. When I think of my sweetest joys as a child it was running non-stop through those corn fields. We would lay down in the rows and daydream, tell stories, play games and chase black snakes. It is all still very real to me today. I wish I could have provided a corn field for my children. I will for my grandbabies. WG, our extension service recommends liming in the winter for the next summer crop. I must not be liming enough in that new area. But I have heard so many success stories like yours that just dump it in when they plant. I am always afraid I will over do it. The directions say 1 pound per 100 square feet. That is a 10x10, right? I am sure I do that. Plus, I am going to amend the wahoo out of that area this fall and winter. 100 quarts, huh?11?!! I am jealous. My grandma canned like that. There was a cellar in the pack house. Holy macaroni, there was jars of everything in there. That is also where they stored the potatoes and onions. Once canning season started the women didn't get together again to quilt until it was over.1 point

We have a group of gramma's who picket our local walmart. lol . they have a mission to tell people as well. but I understand why people work and shop at Walmart they open in areas that need jobs , the wages may be substandard and the company crooked but people need to eat and save money to live. I do understand what saving 5 dollars means to a family who is struggling in these times of decreasing manufacturing jobs and lack of fair education for everyone.1 point

Thank-you Belle for posting your experience in the business world regarding Wal-Mart. I don't shop there. Once I found out about their business practices, that was enough to send me running. They are close to where I live and have a variety of goods, however, I'm lucky enough that I can find what we need else where. I think shopping there is being penny smart and pound foolish. Yes, you save a little money, however, you add to the profit line of a big bully who advertises how caring they are. I love it when they are in the news for litigation and they advertise right up next to it!1 point
