Is THE a cult?
Well of course it is. What you must realize however, is that most cults are evil, whereas THE is cool. What's the difference between cool and evil? Allow me to illuminate you.
Point 1: In an evil cult, the doctrine is used to hurt people and it is manipulated by the few to enslave the many. In a cool cult like THE, the doctrine is completely meaningless and we make it up as we go along. Any ol' peon can come along and affect our credo.
Take krysilis for example. Did we need to do research in order to be convinced that leg shaving should be a cornerstone of our beliefs? Heck no! We jumped on board with her nonsense for absolutely no reason whatsoever. How cool is that?
Point 2: In an evil cult, elitism flourishes and becomes a vehicle for humiliation and segregation among followers. In a cool cult like THE, anybody can rise to glory for (again) no reason whatsoever (are you noticing THE pattern here?).
Take stillhere. She got a title just cuz she wanted one and she's cool. Now does that mean that we're like the "cool people" in high school who snub their noses at the misfits? Heck no! We let boutu come around don't we? And our founder, Rafael, is the biggest freakin' misfit of all! How cool is that?
Point 3: In an evil cult, the followers are locked into a system that is designed to bleed them dry and make them good little worker bees. In a cool cult like THE, there is absolutely no rhyme or reason (see? there it is again!) to anything we do... EVER.
Take Paw. Does anything he post here make any sense at all? Or how about rev2? Do we know where such an emoticon addiction came from or where it's leading? Or how about Sudo and that stupid flurry of blond jokes? Did it fit in with anything that was going on here?
No! No! And No! We can't hurt anybody with our dogma because it has absolutely no inherent logic. How cool is that?
(I got lots more points and examples and there are a whole lot of good people who REALLY deserve credit for what they've done here, but I need to catch a plane - going to a THE convention - so I'm gonna wrap this up now.)
Here's the bottom line. We have taken all the basic features of a cult and distilled them. What we are left with is this tiny bit of stuff that makes a cult good... the mojo-free essence... the cool stuff... like a sense of belonging and a unity of purpose.
WE ARE THE FOLLOWERS OF THE AND WE FOLLOW FOR ABSOLUTELY NO REASON WHATSOEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!
And we're proud of it baby!
How cool is that?
